KERALA BACK
WATERS
Kerala is a land, which is believed to have spring
forth from the sea. Land and water share an extra ordinary kinship
in Kerala. The backwaters refer to the large inland lakes of Kerala
consisting of the entire network of lakes, canals, estuaries and
curious water formations. These waterways play a crucial role
for the transport of goods, people and produce. They are often
the only link between remote, isolated villages and crowded town
pockets. For an enthralling and extensive experience on the backwater
one should take a rigorous ride on a ferry from Quilon to Alleppey,
which is hailed as the Venice of the East, lasting almost an hour.
Backwaters host many special events. It is in
the months of August and September that the moist, rain - drenched
earth and the glorious ever flowing backwaters burst into song
together, as over hundred thousand men and women gather on the
banks to witness a spectacular water event - the SNAKE BOAT RACES.
So get ready
to enjoy the journey through the backwaters for many beautiful
sights are awaiting you to greet you along the way. As the boat
glides along the gorgeous green of the fringed palms the ripples
in the blue waters blend into little wavelets and makes one wonderstruck.
