WAYANAD
The
name Wayanad is derived from the expression ‘Wayalnadu’
which denotes the land of paddy fields’. It is one of the
districts in Kerala that has been able to retain its pristine
nature. The most characteristic aspect about Wayanad is a large
tribal population, who are yet untouched by civilization. Wayanad
is known for its picturesque mist-clad hill stations similar to
that of Ooty, which offers a panorama of undulating hills and
dales. There is luxuriant green all around. The leading tourist
centers of South India like Ooty, Mysore, Coorg, Kozhikode and
Kannur are around this region.

of Attraction
Lakkadi: Is
a place of great scenic beauty with picturesque hills, streams
and luxuriant vegetation, one of the highest locations in Wayanad
and registered the second highest degree of rainfall in the world.
Pakshipathalam: This place can be accessed only by trekking. Rare species of birds
can be sighted from the watchtower of this bird sanctuary.
Begur
Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary has a wide variety of animals.
Wayanad
Wildlife Sanctuary: Rich in biodiversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the
Nilgiri, Biosphere Reserve, which has been established with the
specific objective of conserving the biological heritage of the
region. The sanctuary is very rich in flora and fauna.
Ambalavayal
Heritage Museum: Near the Ambukuthi hill region is this heritage museum, housing
artifacts and belongings of the various tribes of the land. This
is one of the best heritage museums in Kerala.
Other
attractions are Kuruvadweep, Thirunelly temple, Pazhassi tomb,
the Glass temple, Chethalayam and Meenmutty waterfalls, Karappuzha
dam etc.
