Overview of Baba Budan Hills

The Baba Budan Hills, also known as the Chandradrona Parvatha, stand at a magnificent height of 1,895 metres in Baba Budangiri, Karnataka. This mountain range houses Mullaianagiri, the loftiest peak in the region at 1,926 metres. The hills are deeply revered by both pilgrims and nature lovers alike.

History and Significance

The peak derives its name from the revered Muslim saint, Baba Budan, who took up residence here over 200 years ago and famously introduced coffee to India by bringing seeds from Arabia. The region is also spiritually significant due to three caves said to have been sanctified by three Siddhas, containing their icons and Gaddiges (tombs). An annual festival is held in their honour, and a beacon lighted during Deepavali can be seen as far away as Chikmagalur.

Highlights and Attractions

Apart from the spiritual caves, the area boasts famous waterfalls with epic associations—Gada Teertha, Kamana Teertha, and Nellikayi Teertha. The Manikyadhara waterfall is a particularly popular spot for picnics. The misty peaks, lush coffee plantations, and trekking trails make it a comprehensive tourist and pilgrimage destination.
