Overview of Balmuri Falls

Balmuri Falls is a famous man-made scenic picnic spot situated about 18 km away from Mysore, on the way to the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam in Yadathittu, Karnataka. Created by a check dam built across the Cauvery River, the waterfall cascades from a height of about 6 feet along a 1.6 km long check dam. The name 'Balmuri' is derived from Kannada where 'Bala' means 'right' and 'Muri' means 'curve', as the river takes a right turn near the site.

Highlights & Attractions

The location is immensely popular as a scenic getaway and has served as a backdrop for numerous Kannada movie song sequences. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk, sit by the water, take seasonal boat rides, or enjoy a refreshing dip during safer periods. Additionally, a popular Ganapati temple stands beside the waterfalls, drawing numerous devotees.

Travel Guide

Ideal for a single-day outing with family and friends. Best visited during the monsoon season for a splendid view of the overflowing check dam, or between March and August for safer, lower-intensity water levels suitable for playing in the water.
