Originally the glorious capital of the Hoysala Empire, Belur is renowned worldwide for its magnificent Hoysala architecture. The centerpiece of Belur is the legendary Chennakeshava Temple (Keshava Temple), commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE to commemorate his victory over the Cholas.
