Benne Hole Falls is a magnificent 200-foot waterfall formed from the tributary of the River Aghanashini, flowing through the lush Devimane Ghats region of the Western Ghats in Karnataka. Considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Uttara Kannada district, its name is derived from Kannada where 'benne' means butter and 'hole' means big stream.
Trek and Highlights
The trek to the falls involves a completely downhill walk of about 2 kilometers after the first stream, passing through a heavily shaded trail where sunlight barely penetrates even in peak summer. The destination features a breathtaking viewpoint, and adventurous visitors can scramble down the rocks to get closer to the falls. The area is also a haven for birdwatchers, offering sightings of the grey jungle fowl, woolly-necked stork, common kestrel, plum-headed parakeet, jungle owlet, coppersmith barbet, orange minivet, and black-headed oriole.
Travel Guide
Located near Kasage (about 21 km from Sirsi on the way to Kumta), travelers need to head towards Hosur and then trek for 2 km. The best time to visit is between October and February. Swimming in the clear pool formed by the water is strictly not advisable due to treacherous rocks, and the trail becomes extremely difficult and slippery during the monsoon season.
