Overview of Biligiri Rangana Betta (B.R. Hills)
Biligiri Rangana Betta, popularly known as B.R. Hills, is a picturesque hill station located about 114 kms away, situated between a stunning range of hills at an altitude of approximately 1700 meters above sea level. The hill station is named after the revered Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple situated at the peak.
History and Architecture
The hill derives its name from 'Biligiri', which translates to 'white hill' in Kannada, referring to the white face of the hills often draped in mist. The ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ranganatha is the spiritual heart of the region. Another major natural attraction is the ancient Champaka tree, which stands several hundred years old.
Highlights and Travel Guide
The slopes of the hill are thickly wooded, offering rich flora and fauna as part of the B.R. Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. A well-maintained, motorable road leads straight to the top of the hill from Chamarajanagar, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and pilgrims alike.
