Chunchanakatte Falls is a picturesque waterfall located on the river Kaveri in the Krishnaraja Nagar taluk of Mysore district, Karnataka. Dropping from a height of about 20 feet, the water cascades down in multiple streams, creating a roaring sound that echoes through the surrounding greenery. The place holds immense religious significance due to the famous Kodanda Rama Temple situated on the river banks.
History & Legend
According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Rama stayed here during his exile. Goddess Sita is believed to have taken a bath in these holy waters at Dhanuskoti, which legend says gave the water a turmeric tinge. The area also boasts historical and modern infrastructure, including an 18 MW hydral power station established between 1994 and 1998.
