Dabbe Falls Travel Guide

Dabbe Falls, located near Kunjuvalli and Kanapagaru in Karnataka (Pin: 581384), are naturally cascading waterfalls offering an enchanting view to visitors. Nestled in the Sharavati Valley of the lush green Western Ghats, the waterfall is surrounded by a pristine landscape. Also known as 'Kepjoga' in the native language due to the loud sound it makes, the water gushes down the rocks in a steep descent with great velocity.

Legends

The region is steeped in Hindu epic legends. According to lore, during the Ramayana, it was in Sharavati that Lord Rama broke the bow to win the hand of Sita. In the Mahabharata, Bheema visited the region on his way to Sougandhikapushpa for Draupadi, worshipping Lord Shiva here and obtaining a boon. A local temple stands as a testament to this event.

Trekking Experience

The waterfall is reached via a challenging 7 to 9 km trek through dense forest. The final kilometer involves a steep descent inclined at nearly 80 degrees with no stairs, requiring reliance on tree branches, roots, and rocks. Visitors must register their names in a forest department record book kept at a small house near vegetable farms before proceeding. The downhill trek takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Activities

Activities include taking a refreshing cold shower under the falls, photography of the roaring waterfall and surrounding greenery, and relaxing by the water while listening to bird songs.
