Overview of Javagal

Javagal is a historical town located in the Hassan district of Karnataka, pinned at 573125, situated about 40 kms from major regional hubs. It is renowned for its magnificent Hoysala architecture, drawing history enthusiasts, art connoisseurs, and pilgrims alike.

Architecture and History

The crown jewel of Javagal is the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, an exquisite specimen of Hoysala architecture featuring a well-crafted tower and intricate rows of carved stone figures. Built as a three-celled shrine (Trikutachala), the temple houses Lord Keshava in the chief cell, Lord Gopala to the right, and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha to the left. Interestingly, although it is primarily a Vaishnava temple, architectural niches on both sides of the chief cell feature finely sculpted figures of Ganapathi and Mahishasura Mardini, showcasing the religious harmony and sculptural brilliance of the Hoysala era.
