Kadri Manjunath Temple

Nestled at the foot of the highest hill in Mangaluru, the Kadri Manjunath Temple is an ancient historic landmark dating back to about 1068 A.D. Dedicated to Lord Manjunathaswamy, whose idol is considered one of the oldest in South India, the temple is renowned for housing the Lokeshwara bronze statue, widely tipped to be the best bronze statue in India. The temple complex features unique architecture alongside nine sacred ponds (tanks). The surrounding Kadri Hills also host significant pilgrim attractions including the 'Jogimutt' built by King Kundavarma Bupendra and ancient stone caves known as the caves of the Pandavas.

History & Architecture

Dating to the 11th century, the temple reflects classic South Indian architectural styles blended with Buddhist-Natha cult influences, evident from the Lokeshwara bronze image and the hilltop Jogimutt. The complex is historically tied to the Nath tradition.
