Overview of Kalhatta Giri Falls

Located about 10 kms from Kemmangundi in Manchethevaru, Karnataka (PIN 577129), Kalhatta Giri Falls (also known as Kalhatti Falls) is a mesmerizing destination offering an excellent view of cascading water plunging from the Chandra Drona Hill from a height of 45 meters. Situated in the Chikamagalur district of West Karnataka, it is approximately an 8-hour drive from Bangalore.

History & Architecture

The falls are uniquely positioned right in front of the revered Veerabhadreshwara Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Visitors cross the waterfalls to approach the temple. During the months of March and April, an annual jatra (fair) is held here, attracting pilgrims from all over the region. The nearby Kemmangundi hill station served as the summer retreat for the erstwhile Wodeyar ruler, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, and features beautifully laid gardens, magnificent mountain ranges, and splendid valleys.
