Located just 20 kilometers from Shravanabelagola in Karnataka, Kambadahalli is a historically significant and holy pilgrimage site for Jains. The town derives its name from the magnificent, tall Brahmadeva Pillar ('Kamba' in Kannada means pillar) that stands at an impressive height of about 17 meters. Featuring proportionate girth, a seated figure of Brahma facing east at the top, and intricate bell carvings all around, it is an architectural marvel.
Architecture and Highlights
Kambadahalli is renowned for the Panchakuta Basadi, a premier example of Western Ganga and Hoysala architecture. This temple complex features five shrines (kutis) housing finely carved figures of various Jaina Tirthankaras. The delicate stone sculptures, polished pillars, and exquisite ceiling carvings reflect the zenith of medieval South Indian temple architecture.
