History & Significance
The town's stunning natural landscapes deeply inspired Nobel laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore during his stay, prompting him to pen his very first play. Karwar is also steeped in history, featuring the historic Sadashivghad fort with its Durga temple visited by Chatrapathi Shivaji, the revered Dargah of Sufi Saint Peer Shah Shamshuddin Kharobad, and the Octagonal Church at Sunkeri.
