Overview
Malpe Beach, located just 6 km from Udupi, Karnataka, is a stunning natural port known for its golden brown sand, turquoise blue waters, and swaying palm trees. It is often regarded as a virgin beach with untouched, pristine beauty. Flowing around the beach is the Udayavara River, also known as the Malpe River.
St. Mary's Island
A major highlight is St. Mary's Island, accessible via boat from Malpe. Vasco da Gama landed here in 1498 and named it 'EI Padron de Santa Maria'. The island is globally famous for its unique columnar basaltic rock formations, split into hexagonal mosaics. Declared a Geological Monument by the Geological Survey of India, it is a premier destination for geo-tourism.
