Overview & History
Located about 14 kms from Hassan in Karnataka, Mosale is a tranquil village renowned for its twin Hoysala temples standing side by side. Built during the Hoysala Empire, these temples—the Nageshwara (Shiva) temple to the south and the Chennakeshava (Vishnu) temple to the north—are remarkable for being almost identical in design, architecture, and craftsmanship.
Architecture & Highlights
The twin temples are fine examples of Hoysala architecture, featuring intricate stone carvings, polished pillars, and ornate star-shaped platforms. A major highlight of the site is the rare and exquisite sculpture of the Dancing Vishnu (Tandava Vishnu), a unique iconographic representation rarely found in other Hoysala structures.
Travel Guide
Mosale can be easily reached by road from Hassan. It is an ideal destination for history buffs, art enthusiasts, and architectural tourists looking to explore Hoysala heritage without the heavy crowds of major tourist hubs.
