Mulbagal, located 9 kms from Kolar at pin code 563131, derives its name from 'Moodala Bagilu' meaning the eastern gate from ancient times. It served as the southern capital of the Vijayanagar Kingdom and is historically recognized as the traditional entry gate on the eastern side for pilgrims proceeding to the famous Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh.
