Pattadakal, located in Karnataka (PIN 587201), is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre situated 120 km away. Once the secondary capital of the Chalukyan kings of Badami, it features ten major temples representing a harmonious blend of Dravidian (Southern) and Nagari (Northern) architectural styles side by side. The site reached its highest glory during the reigns of Mangalesha and Immadi Pulikeshi. The greatest and most beautiful of the temples is the Virupaksha Temple, which features a massive gateway and a majestic Nandi statue that stands 3 meters in height. Other notable structures include the Mallikarjuna and Papanatha temples, which are delicately sculptured and rich in detail. The Government of Karnataka annually arranges a dance festival here. Tourists typically keep Badami as their base for lodging, and visitors often explore nearby historical hubs like Aihole, Banashankari, and Mahakuta by hiring a taxi from Bijapur or Badami.
