Ramadevara Hills, locally known as Sri Ramadevara Betta or Sholay Betta, is situated approximately 50 km from Bengaluru along the Bengaluru-Mysore National Highway. This picturesque and historically rich destination holds immense significance for both cinema fans and pilgrims alike.
History & Mythology
According to local folklore and belief, Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, visited this place during their exile. A local legend states that while Sita was bathing in a pond amidst the massive rocks, a demon named Kakasura attempted to mock her. Lord Rama subsequently vanquished him here. Elders often recount that due to this divine event, not a single crow can be spotted around these hills (hence 'Kaka' + 'asura').
Cinematic Significance
The rugged terrain and dramatic landscapes of these hills served as the primary shooting location for the evergreen Hindi cinematic blockbuster SHOLAY, making it a legendary spot for movie buffs.
Conservation & Wildlife
Recently, the Government of Karnataka declared these hills a protected area specifically to safeguard the dwindling population of the rare long-billed white-necked vultures, making it a prominent hub for nature lovers and bird watchers.
