History & Mythology
The historical Somanath Temple was constructed during the rule of the famous Queen Abbakka Devi in the 16th century. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, and the temple is adorned with beautiful sculptures along with a statue of the great sage Parashurama. According to mythology, the coastal region of Karnataka along with Kerala was the creation of Parashurama.
