Overview of Ulavi
Ulavi is a prominent pilgrim and tourist center located about 75 kms from Karwar, Karnataka, nestled near Supa amidst the dense forests of the Western Ghats. It is deeply revered by the Veerashaiva (Lingayat) community as it houses the Samadhi of Sri Channabasaveshwara, a key saint of the 12th-century Bhakti movement who sought refuge here from the Kalachura army.
History
Sri Channabasavanna, nephew of Basaveshwara, traveled from Kalyan to Ulavi during turbulent political times. He attained Aikya (unity with the divine) here. The samadhi site became a major spiritual hub, drawing thousands of devotees, especially during the annual festival.
Highlights
Key attractions include the main Samadhi temple, Akka Nagamma's cave (where Channabasavanna's mother and fellow saint lived), and Mahamani Gavi (a natural cave where spiritual discourses reportedly took place).
