Shivasamudram

Shivanasamudra, located approximately 85 kilometers from Mysore, is a breathtaking island town formed by the bifurcating Cauvery River. It is home to two of India's most spectacular waterfalls: the Gaganchukki and the Bharachukki. Often referred to by locals as 'Bluff' due to its history with the Shimsha Hydro-electric project—the first of its kind in Asia established in 1902—the landscape is a mesmerizing blend of roaring natural beauty and industrial heritage. The sanctum exudes an aura of ancient serenity, believed to be sanctified by sages who meditated on these banks centuries ago.

The temple's history is deeply intertwined with the royal patronage of the Hoysala and Vijayanagara empires, with further renovations conducted during the Wodeyar dynasty of Mysore. Architecturally, the temple showcases the classic Dravidian style, characterized by intricately carved stone pillars and a modest yet elegant gopuram. The Rathothsava (car festival) is the primary annual event, during which the deity is taken out in a grand procession, drawing devotees from surrounding villages and cities.
