Unchalli Falls

Unchalli Falls, historically referred to as Lushington Falls, is a breathtaking natural wonder situated near Yellapur in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The waterfall derives its colonial name from J.D. Lushington, the District Collector who first identified the cascade in 1845. The falls are formed by the Aghanashini River, which plummets from a massive height of approximately 450 feet, creating a dramatic, thundering spectacle amidst the lush greenery of the Western Ghats.

Known locally as Keppa Joga (the 'deafening falls') due to the intense, roaring sound generated as the water hits the rocks, the waterfall is often compared to Niagara Falls for its wide, cascading expanse. The geography of the region consists of dense, tropical evergreen forests, deep gorges, and steep mountain slopes that provide a challenging yet rewarding terrain for nature enthusiasts and trekkers.
